About Monsoon

Monsoon began around 30 years ago as a small, nostalgic cottage on The Hill in Stillorgan. Three decades on, it is still there, still family-run, and still serving the authentic Indian food it built its name on. Ingredients are chosen personally from local vendors, dishes are cooked fresh to order, and the naan comes straight out of the oven. As the team puts it, the motto has always been authentic Indian food made with care.

The heart of Monsoon is its community. Arun and chef Alok talk about customers who have come every week for decades, people who first visited in their twenties and now arrive with children of their own. Some are so loyal they will stop at Monsoon on the way home from the airport before they even go home. That relationship, built one guest at a time, is what has carried the restaurant through Celtic Tiger booms, recessions and everything since.

The challenge

Monsoon has been a hybrid business from the very beginning, running dine-in and takeaway side by side. That combination is demanding. When takeaway orders start flooding in at the same time as a full dining room, the pressure on the kitchen is intense, and keeping quality and consistency high across both is a constant balancing act.

On top of that, the old way of managing orders created friction. Staff were calling customers to tell them food was ready, calling drivers to ask where they were, and writing orders down before passing them to the kitchen. Every one of those steps took time and attention away from the food. Monsoon had also worked through several different POS systems over the years without finding the consistency they needed.

The solution

Monsoon switched to Flipdish to bring the whole operation onto one integrated platform. The POS now handles dine-in and takeaway together, with online ordering, a driver app, a kitchen display system and handheld terminals all connected in one place.

"We've been through a lot of different POS systems over the years. With Flipdish, we have online ordering, the driver app, the kitchen display and order taking all integrated in one place. Everything is coherent, and that makes it much easier for one person to manage."
Arun, Monsoon

The handheld terminals let staff take orders and payments at the table and send them straight to the kitchen, cutting out the step of writing things down. Orders land on the KDS, where the team can see at a glance how many portions of each dish are needed and start preparing accordingly. Allergen information is built in too, with barcoded labels that link through to Monsoon's allergen list, so any flagged allergy shows up clearly for the chefs.

Automated notifications have taken a lot of the daily pressure off. Customers now get a message when their food is ready for collection or when the driver is on the way, which means far fewer phone calls in both directions.

"Flipdish lets customers track their food. Once the order is ready, a message goes out to say it's ready for collection, or that the driver is on the way. That takes the pressure off us, because before we had to call every customer ourselves."
Alok, Monsoon

Driver tracking has been a particular favourite. Instead of ringing drivers constantly for updates, the team can see where everyone is and plan the next batch of deliveries around it. It is safer for drivers, who are no longer answering calls on the road, and it lets Arun give even phone customers an accurate update on where their order is.

"The best part is being able to keep track of the drivers and see exactly where they are. Before, I used to call them every minute to ask how long they would be. Now I can just look, plan the next deliveries and send them out."
Arun, Monsoon

The results

For Monsoon, the biggest win is time given back. With the system handling notifications, tracking and order flow, the team can put more of their energy where it matters most: the food and the guest experience.

"Flipdish saves us time, and that time goes straight back into the food. We can focus more on the quality and the standards, and more on the customer experience."
Arun, Monsoon

After 30 years, Monsoon's priorities have not changed. The technology behind the counter simply lets them keep doing what they have always done, looking after a community that has looked after them.

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last 30 years. Every guest who walks through the door is like a pearl, and together they make a necklace, one at a time."
Arun, Monsoon
