Flipdish launches new handheld point of sale (pos) for faster ordering in restaurants and qsrs
To bring speed and mobility to food and beverage operators working in fast-paced environments, Irish food-tech company, Flipdish, has unveiled its new portable point of sale (POS) device. The Handheld POS combines ordering, payment processing and loyalty integration in one compact unit.

Designed for use in casual dining restaurants, quick service restaurants, food trucks and other high-footfall venues, the handheld system allows staff to take orders and payments directly at tables, in queues or outdoors, as well as at traditional counters, helping to reduce wait times and improve the customer experience.

“The Handheld POS reflects a growing demand for tools that enable flexible service models without compromising on speed or accuracy,” said Flipdish co-founder, James McCarthy. “Staff can use it for everything. They can take the order at the counter or tableside, automatically send it to the kitchen, apply loyalty rewards, take payment and print the receipt, eliminating the need for separate systems or trips back and forth to a fixed terminal.”
The device’s compact design and long battery life make it particularly well suited to high footfall and mobile vendors, or where service needs to extend beyond fixed points of sale. The intuitive interface is designed to keep training times low, making it easy for new or temporary staff to get up to speed quickly during busy periods.
For food trucks, or those locations with limited counter space, the Handheld POS transforms into a counter-top POS by being placed in its swivel-mounted charging base.
“The Flipdish Handheld POS works wherever your customers are; no counter, no problem,” said McCarthy. “Whether you're running a food truck or a large restaurant with outdoor seating, the Handheld POS puts all necessary functions in the palm of your hand.”
Several high-volume QSRs are currently using the system. “I wish I had implemented the Handheld POS sooner in my businesses," said Sandy Sanghera, owner of 2019 Spice Awards winner, Indian Scene. “The system has made a huge difference in our restaurant, linking with the independent printers for all stations, saving time and most importantly reducing errors. We have no more handwritten orders and don’t have to worry about over- or under-charging customers.”
The handheld POS integrates seamlessly with the existing Flipdish ecosystem, including menu management, inventory, loyalty schemes, staff rotas, health and safety and reporting. This ensures consistency across all customer touchpoints and gives operators real-time visibility over orders, data and customer preferences.
The Handheld POS is available to order now, with a 50 per cent discount on the starter kit, including the Handheld POS, swivel charging base, cash drawer and printer for sending orders to the kitchen.
