How Macari's keeps a 60-year family tradition thriving with Flipdish

Macari's has been feeding Dublin since 1960. With six locations across Dublin 9 and Dublin 11 and decades of loyal customers, Danielle and Ben Macari have built on the legacy started by father-in-law Constantino to keep one of the city's most loved fish and chip shops going strong. Flipdish has been part of that journey since the early days, helping the team handle a busy delivery operation with ease.

About Macari's

Some businesses just become part of the neighbourhood. Macari's is one of them.

Constantino Macari opened the first shop in 1960, and the family never really left. Danielle and Ben took over in 1987 and have been at it ever since. Six locations now, both sides of the northside, Dublin 9 and Dublin 11. The kind of growth that happens slowly and sticks.

Ask Danielle what to get and she won't hesitate. Batter burger. Every time.

The challenge

Running six takeaways is not simple. Orders coming in, deliveries going out, staff across multiple sites. When customers started moving online and expecting to order from their phones, Macari's needed to move with them. But not at the cost of adding more complexity to an already busy operation. They needed something solid, and they needed to know there was someone on the other end of the phone if it ever wasn't.

The solution

Macari's were among the first through the door with Flipdish. That kind of early buy-in tends to mean something. They got a direct ordering setup that kept customers ordering from them directly, cutting out the middleman and keeping the relationship where it belonged. Simple idea, but it matters when you're running a business on tight margins.

The results

Delivery is a serious part of the business now. It has grown steadily and the platform has kept up with it across all six sites without much fuss. That is probably the best thing you can say about any bit of technology running in the background of a busy kitchen.

"Flipdish service is excellent, and if we do have any issues, we call them and it just gets sorted straight away." Danielle Macari, co-owner, Macari's

Sixty-something years on, Macari's is still feeding the same streets Constantino started on. A bit more of the ordering happens online these days. Everything else is pretty much the same.
